For the first time ever, and celebrating its 100 year anniversary, The Great Gatsby: A New Ballet By The World Company is coming to stages across America for a dazzling and breathtaking production this year! Producers Gorskaya-Hartwick and choreographer Anna Drubich have done it once again and are ready to show the world their take on the dazzling story of NIck Carraway and Daisy Buchanan for all of our viewing pleasure.

Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the Fall! Adler Theatre - located in downtown Davenport and one of the premier venues of our city and all of Iowa - is so excited to have the Gatsby crew on stage this October on Tuesday the 7th for The Great Gatsby: A New Ballet By The World Company production taking America on by storm as Scott Fitzgerald’s magnum opus turned 100 this Summer. Filled with beautiful ballet, immersive storytelling, and tons of green lights beaming off from the distance - The World Company has recreated Gatsby’s story for us to view in a new and innovative way, and we’re so ready to see it all live and in action! The ballet tour has been hitting fifty spots (!!) the Spring and now - including the Academy of Music in Northampton, Albany New York, Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Music Hall over in Detroit, the CAM-PLEX in Wyoming, and of course - right here in Davenport at Adler this October.
The Great Gatsby is one of the most iconic books in American literature and culture. Taking place in the Roaring 20s of New York City where everything seemed to be moving too fast, Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic book originally didn’t take the world by storm as much as he had hoped. It wasn’t until a few decades later, after his death and the book was given to soldiers to read as they fought in World War Two, that the book gained national attention and acclaim from critics and readers alike. Exposing the dark side of The American Dream, the emptiness of the 20s, and multiple social problems that still persist in modern culture to this day.
The Great Gatsby is one of those books you read and never forget. We all probably read it back in our high school American Lit class, true - but as a ballet, The World Company reaffirms some of the major social critiques the book was hitting on, and showcases it in one of the most unique and beautiful ways ever seen - similar to the poetic and moving way the book was written by Fitzgerald over 100 years ago.
